Why Am I Always Cold? 5 Key Reasons You Need to Know

Do you ever find yourself feeling cold even though everyone else seems okay? You are not alone, as many people find that they feel cold all of the time, although these feelings are not caused by the thermostat. So what are some of the other common reasons you may find yourself feeling cold? Here are a few possible answers and what you might consider doing about them:.

Everyone feels temperature differently. While some can be sitting in a cold room and yet enjoy it, others would shiver under a blanket. However, persistent coldness may be more than a matter of personal preference. Explore five key reasons you might be feeling cold all the time and how to address them.

    1. Poor Circulation

Poor circulation can be a very common reason people always seem to feel so cold. Blood flow is pretty much essential in maintaining human body temperatures. If a person has less than great circulation, then warm blood will find it harder to reach some extremities that may otherwise make hands and feet a little warm.

Poor circulation can be associated with a variety of other medical conditions, such as heart disease or diabetes. Otherwise, it can start just from a sedentary lifestyle. Sitting through the whole day or perhaps not being involved in some kind of activity is highly likely to limit your body’s ability to gain the proper blood flow, therefore meaning that it will really be challenging for your body to retain warmth.

How Poor Circulation Makes You Feel Cold?

When there is poor or no blood circulation in the body, your body cannot allow heat to be expelled from it. It might therefore make a slightly chilly condition feel even more so to you.

    2. Low Body Weight

If you are skinny or have a smaller frame it is possible to feel cold now and then. Fat is the body insulating layer and it will prevent heat from coming out of the body too fast. They have also noted that if a person does not possess enough fat deposit in his or her body, the body fails to trap heat.

Why Low Body Weight reduces body temperature

Fat acts like a thermal blanket that keeps a person warm. Those who have less body fat lose heat faster, making them cold sooner than others.

Overcoming Low Body Weight and Cold Sensitivity

Healthy diet with the inclusion of healthy fats and proteins would improve body insulation. Also, regular exercise improves the circulation of blood and would help your body to keep warm.

    3. Thyroid Issues

Thyroid is very small organ but it has an important function of regulating the temperature in our body. If thyroid gland is not working correctly, especially if it is underactive, this is hypothyroidism, your body may have a tough time generating heat.

As you are aware the thyroid gland regulates metabolism and hypothyroidism means that the body has low metabolic heat level. This means that whether it is summer or any other season, you may feel cold all the time.

Manage Thyroid Problems to Warm Up

When you feel like you’re always cold, then check if there’s an underlying thyroid condition. Visit your doctor so proper medication and lifestyle modification could be provided. Thyroid can be balanced and the cold feeling can be erased through iodine-enriched food intake.

    4. Anemia

Being the most prevalent form of anemia, iron deficiency anemia is the critical reason behind individuals who suffer a cold body condition that feels like it will last for ever. Iron is a chemical compound used to form hemoglobin, which is a protein found in red blood cells responsible for distributing oxygen to the different cells in the body. Lacking in iron, the body is unable to send enough oxygen to the cells and, therefore, struggles with regulating temperatures.

Low levels of iron mean that fewer oxygen molecules reach the tissues, and thus your body will feel colder as less heat is being produced. Due to fatigue caused by anemia, you feel more easily chilled.

    Solutions for Managing Anemia

Increasing the uptake of iron on foods such as spinach and lean meat, as well as supplements, can warm up one’s body while increasing energy. Treatment best depends on a medical practitioner.

    5. Dehydration

Dehydration is a condition most people do not think of when they have the sensation of being cold, yet it plays its part in maintaining body warmth. Your body will withhold water in case of dehydration; this impairs circulation; hence one feels colder.

Water helps to maintain your circulation steady and your cells active. That means if you are not taking enough water round your body, circulation will slow down and this will eventually lower the heat produced in the body hence it becomes cooler.

Hints on Staying Well, Well-Hydrated and Warm

Intake of large amount of water relieve body systems and keep body organs functioning all through. Herbal teas or warm lemon water help you keep hydrated and feeling warm.
